We played this course as part of the 10th O-Street Winter Classic tournament, which was held late in February 2025. We recognize that playing it in the “off-season” will lead to a course that won’t be in its best condition but several of the flaws we noticed on this course were not driven by a single winter’s weather. The carpets were worn resulting in very fast putts and an exaggeration of the various breaks on the greens. There were several missing pilings and rocks, resulting in a fair number of places where you could go out-of-bounds where otherwise the course was not designed that way. There was a lot of debris on the course, some of which could be attributed to the winter, but in other places you can tell the buildup of leaves or mold was something that has been festering for a while as well as the resulting impact on the carpet below.

The holes themselves did have some creativity and not a lot of repetition of types of holes between the two courses.  This did give you a chance to think about different approaches as you moved through the course, which is also good for a tournament.  However, it felt like most of our thoughts were on how to “manage” the carpets and debris versus straight playing the holes. There are some ace opportunities on the course and we feel like there would be even more, or at least more consistent, if the carpets were in better condition.  The Highland Falls course does play a bit more difficult, especially the back 9, than the rest of the complex.  The last couple of holes are the most challenging, with hole 18 being one of the most difficult finishing holes we have seen in a while, even for the pros who were playing the tournament.  We wouldn’t be surprised if you see a lot of high scores on that hole for the average minigolfer.

There doesn’t seem to be any specific theming on the course and outside of the missing items that impact play, the other stuff on the course (railings, etc) all need some level of replacement or painting. The courses have the vibe that we normally see of ones that are part of larger complexes (batting cages, driving ranges, etc) where they aren’t the primary focus so are sometimes left to decay.  However, at this complex the courses do seem to the primary focus as there are only some batting cages and a small arcade to go along with them.

We wouldn’t be in a rush to play this course again and it doesn’t seem to be one that would be that fun for children, though having the arcade helps.  New carpets and some basic repairs around the course would at least bump this course up to average but there’s not much else to draw folks here except for distance.
