To be honest, this course rated higher than we initially
thought it would given its setting. The course is smack dab in the middle of
tourist central in
The first good thing about this course is that they are the first course we’ve seen that includes a comment card on their scorecard. They ask what you think about the course and the employees and give you some space for general comments. The idea that they are looking for user input is a big plus in our book. The course also makes interesting use of movable obstacles. One three or four of the holes the items used as the obstacles could be moved to various locations to constantly change the hole. However, we couldn’t tell if it was designed so that the operators could change the course daily or if the players were supposed to change the hole before playing it. We thought that the idea was neat, but the execution needed a little work. If it was actually meant for the players to be able to change the hole a little, there should be a sign stating such. Also, there should be some sort of way to anchor the pieces (Velcro possibly) so that once they are positioned, they can’t be easily knocked out of place.
For what ever reason we noticed that the layout of this course worked quite well for the space given it. It wrapped around itself and the hill it was on quite efficiently. The course was also in decent condition and the landscaping used a lot of interesting colored flowers, but wasn’t so overbearing that it encroached on the course or was a haven for bees. There were a couple of areas we saw for improvement on the course as well. The first is that they had movable starting mats. Although we like the idea of being able to change the layout of a hole, the starting mats should at least be stable so that everyone has a common starting point that doesn’t get kicked around. Also, we’re generally not huge fans of the starting mat because there’s always that small lip between the mat and the carpet of the hole, which can throw off your putt. The other area that needs a little work is the water hazards on the holes, all of which overflowed onto the carpet creating large swamp-like areas. The problem here is that the water level is even with the carpet so that the water can splash out onto the carpet. A small difference in elevation between the two and some good sealant could easily rectify this situation.
Other than that the course made good use of a nautical theme and provided for a good hour or so of fun. Although not quite as outstanding as Steamboat Landing, which is just around the corner, it is still worth the price of admission.

A much nicer course than it first appeared when
we arrived. Actually, we were looking for steamboat landing which is around the
corner, and up the road a-piece. (I've only been in Maine a day,
and I'm already starting to talk funny).
The greens are a little worn, and a bit wrinkled here and there, but not
a bad course. One complaint is that many of the greens have 2 holes with no
apparent reason.
